Dawson's Orchards began in 1946 when George and Janet married. Chickens were the main income until the early 1960's when the orchard plantings began to produce. In 1981, Carolyn, the youngest of 4 children, and her husband, Kevin Cowher, both recent Penn State grads, came into partenship with Carolyn's parents. In 1984, Carolyn and Kevin technically took over, but George and Janet remained very much involved in the work of the farm. Over the next several years, three children, Karen, Rusty, and Stephen, were born. All of them quickly learned how to help at market! Stephen set the record being only 5 days old on his first market night. During that time, Kevin expanded the wholesale end of the business. George died in 1994 and Kevin in 2000, so by default, Carolyn, by the grace of God, runs the farm. Janet, knowing what needs done when, is always willing to help. The children, when not involved in school and sports, also pitch in. Karen has provided them with Darren, now a year old, for daily enjoyment. He has already made his market debut!

Their home market is not developed for retail trade like many others are, but they do welcome you and do their best to offer fruit that is fresh and tastes great! The drive from Pittsburgh area is pleasant and their farm is out and away from the busyness of the world.
